“And when you pray, don’t babble on and on like the pagans, who think God will hear them better if they talk a lot. Don’t be like them, because your Father knows what you need before you ask him. You, therefore, pray like this:
‘Our Father in heaven!
May your Name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come,
your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us the food we need today. Forgive us what we have done wrong,
as we too have forgiven those who have wronged us.
And do not lead us into hard testing,
but keep us safe from the Evil One.]
For kingship, power and glory are yours forever.”
When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray He asked His Father for something special: I have placed it in bold letters to make a point. That point is: When you pray have you ever asked God to answer your prayer and He hasn’t? I know I have. Have you ever gotten impatient when your request was not answered – and eventually just gave up – and quit praying?
Thousands of years ago Jesus asked something in the very beginning of His prayer that was and still is in God’s perfect will! His words were powerful and full of love and respect for His Father and He honored His Father by placing His request at the beginning!
We don’t like to wait for answers, do we? Well here goes – Jesus is still waiting for His prayer request – because, His request has not come to pass as yet!
